Saint Petersburg (セントピーターズバーグ, Sentopītāzubāgu) is a fan-made character for the anime and manga series Hetalia: Axis Powers. He represents a federal, and once capital, city of Russia and received the human name Nicholas (ニコラス, Nikorasu, Russian: Николай, Nikolaĭ).
Though still very young in years, St. Petersburg quickly grows into a young adolescent with tidy platinum blonde hair and pale blue eyes. He usually wears very formal clothing, shifting from ornamental to plain depending on the occasion, such as dark fur-rimmed coats and suit trousers, sometimes accompanied by a fur-lined cloak and an ushanka when it is snowing.
St. Petersburg's casuals also tend to be smart, involving button-up shirts and neck ribbons, although he was forced to wear work clothes for a period of time when Moscow was reinstated as the capital of Russia, and a Red Army uniform.
Personality and InterestsEdit
A very eloquent speaker, sociable, open to new ideas and level-headed on the surface, St. Petersburg is actually rather hot-blooded and self-conscious as a temporary capital, and always has a lot of things on his mind. He enjoys reading poetry and has an appreciation for museums, ballet and opera. He currently acts as a secretary of sorts for Russia, being a stickler for organisation, and is often seen rushing around trying to sort out a lot of things at once.
Though barely a teenager, St. Petersburg speaks and acts like a matured adult and, though not pompous, he's always very formal, even with close friends. However, underneath his stoicism, St. Petersburg is under a lot of stress and has many things to complain about, but he usually keeps it to himself to be more like an adult. As a result, it tends to bubble out unintentionally from time to time with a killing intent that's actually directed towards himself, but sends people running instantly, or, in Russia's case, exude one back. While St Petersburg is also quite self-deprecating and spends a lot of time worrying by himself, he gets easily flustered and moved when shown a genuine act of kindness, although he will cover it with an embarrassed cough.
Russia seems to like teasing and riling St. Petersburg up for fun, although with less sadism than he does with the Baltic States. Although most of St Petersburg's stress levels seem to, in some way or another, point to Russia, he worries about him and is quick to defend him when he is critisized.
- St Petersburg's human name is a reference to Tsar Nicholas II, who ruled while St Petersburg was the Imperial Capital of Russia
- St Petersburg's birthday, May 27th, corresponds with the day it was founded by Peter the Great.
